  • Boston’s foremost educational consulting firm since 1955 will now be known as Howland, Spence & McMillan. Faith Howland and Michael Spence introduce this most recent development in the firm’s long and storied history and are excited to see the McMillans bring a combination of continuity in the firm’s tradition of excellence in highly personalized school and college planning, and also the introduction of expanded and modernized services that will allow HS&M educational consultants to be even more responsive to your family’s needs in today's evolving school and college landscapes.   • Sarah has just returned from meeting with admissions officers, faculty and students at colleges in Pennsylvania, including Lehigh, Lafayette, Muhlenburg, Moravian, Dickinson, Gettysburg, and Franklin & Marshall. While in the area, she also attended an athletic recruiting event at Princeton University in order to stay current on athletic recruiting practices in the Ivy League.
  • In April, Michael visited, toured and met with the admission directors from Harvey Mudd, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer and Scripps for a full day. During this recent trip to Southern California, Michael also toured and met with admission staffs at Occidental, University of Southern California, and Loyola Marymount, and enjoyed an extensive tour of the new film school at Chapman.
  • Linda recently participated in running a college-counseling workshop at Harvard for students and graduates of Beacon Academy. This spring she’ll be conducting a fresh round of school visits, along with Sarah, to Brimmer & May, Chestnut Hill, Park, Dexter Southfield, and The British School, to name several. Linda and Sarah plan to focus their attention in the near future on Greater Boston school visits on pre-kindergarten through 8th grade programs. Linda is also currently working on launching another college planning workshop in the near future. Stay tuned.
  • Faith has revisited several schools over the course of the winter and spring, including meeting with the head of school and new admission director at Loomis Chaffee School. She also visited the heads of school and admission directors at Cambridge School of Weston and New Hampton School, and spent time with the directors of admission at St. Paul's School and Exeter Academy.
  • On April 22 Don presented “The Changing Landscape of College Admissions” to members of the Myopia Hunt Club and Essex County Club in Hamilton, Massachusetts. He focused on recent trends like “the Changing Role of Writing in College Admissions” and “Positive and Negative Effects of the Recessions.” He will be visiting a number of colleges in Connecticut this spring to continue his assessment of these and related trends in college admissions.
