Learning Differences

Broad expertise makes a difference

Howland, Spence & McMillan brings considerable expertise to the area of understanding and working with a wide variety of learning profiles. We help students with moderate learning disorders, such as ADHD and dyslexia, find schools or colleges with programs that can effectively support their particular learning needs.

We also advise gifted students who require distinctive qualities from an educational setting that is equipped to value their intellectual gifts and support their growth. Some of our students experience significant obstacles to learning and come to us with a formal LD diagnosis. Some struggle with particular aspects of learning and are thus most successful when engaged in learning through their distinctive cognitive strengths.

HS&M understands that developing insight into one’s unique learning profile is a significant factor in discovering schools or colleges where students can excel relative to their particular strengths. Our expertise has led to a collaboration with the landmark “All Kinds of Minds” program in neurodiversity. We also train teachers at independent schools in instructional methods for working with students with distinctive learning profiles and teach aspiring educators at the college and graduate level on a range of learning-related topics.
