Balancing the creative and practical aspects of the journey

Students pursuing the creative arts face all of the typical challenges of the college planning process. Added to those considerable challenges are the requirements specific to their artistic goals. Deliberate college planning for the creative applicant is made all the more crucial both by these added requisites and by the unique admission calendar.

Our goal in working with creative applicants is consistent with the overarching principles that guide all our college planning: we seek to help the student come to know him or herself, in this case as a creative applicant attempting to balance particular artistic goals with other academic priorities. Through this self-exploration process, we are able to help creative applicants make important decisions about the artistic components of the college application, and realize their goals of identifying, examining and enrolling in conservatories, art schools and academies, or universities with strong performing, studio, and creative arts departments.

HS&M advises students from a wide range of artistic fields, including dance, drama, music, visual and graphic arts, and writing. We strive to make this process an effective balance of creative journey and practical efficiency and efficacy.
